Council approves bike path extension
At its Oct. 1 meeting, the Fernley City Council approved a $360,740 contract with Lumos & Associates for the design and construction management of Phase 3 of the bike path along the south side of Farm District Road. Phase 3 will fill a 0.3-mile gap between Jasmine Lane and Hendrix Drive and extend the path 0.3 miles east to Clearwater Parkway. Once completed, the bike path will offer approximately 3.7 miles of continuous trail from Villa Way to Clearwater Parkway. Construction, funded by the federal Transportation Alternative Program, is expected to begin by next fall. The city’s Transportation Master Plan calls for the path to eventually reach East Valley Elementary School and ultimately Highway 50A.

The Inside Veer - It’s cold enough already
Fall is here, and with it, the first chilly mornings. At 41 degrees, jackets are back in rotation, fingers fumble for keys, and cars need warming. While some embrace the crisp air, for others it’s a reminder that the real cold is still to come—and the hunt for gloves has officially begun.

City says $26 million fleet discrepancy tied to accounting code
The City of Fernley said a $26 million discrepancy in reported fleet spending for FY24-25 was due to an accounting code that combined fleet and grant expenses. The issue, highlighted by DOGE Nevada, made OpenGov.com’s portal show inflated numbers, including nearly $20 million in grant-funded projects under the Fleet category. The city has updated its accounting structure and is working to correct the portal to ensure accurate and transparent reporting.
