North Lyon County Fire Protection District has welcomed Aaron Wilson to its Board of Directors following his appointment to fill the remainder of the term previously held by Jay Rodriguez.
Wilson was sworn in July 9 and will serve on the five-member board while voters ultimately decide who will hold the seat moving forward.
Wilson and his wife, Michelle, are local small-business owners raising their family in Fernley. He said his decision to serve grew from a desire to give back to the community his family calls home.
As he begins his work on the board, Wilson said his first priority is to listen and learn, gaining a deeper understanding of the district, its personnel and the challenges involved in providing emergency services to a growing community.
Looking ahead, Wilson said he hopes to help position North Lyon Fire for the future through responsible financial decisions and long-term planning, while continuing to invest in personnel, equipment, training, staffing and facilities.
He said those decisions must account not only for the district’s immediate needs, but also for what Fernley and the surrounding area may require five, 10 and 20 years from now.
Wilson said he plans to approach the position with humility, common sense, transparency and accessibility, with the goal of strengthening the district while maintaining the trust of residents and taxpayers.
