Inmate escapes from Fernley substation

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

A man arrested Friday afternoon escaped from an unsecured cell at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Fernley Substation.

Cory Tyler, 30, was believed to have fled the substation toward the southeast on foot.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler was arrested on a Nevada Parole and Probation warrant on the 200 block of Grenada Street, He was transported to the Fernley substation for temporary housing prior to being taken to the Lyon County Jail in Yerington for booking.

While at the substation, Tyler’s handcuffs were removed and he was placed in a holding cell. The transporting deputy failed to properly secure the cell and Tyler fled when the deputy left the area.

The Sheriff’s Office says it has no information suggesting Tyler is armed, but urged the public to exercise extreme caution and to contact law enforcement if anyone sees him.

LCSO also said aiding or assisting Tyler in any way is punishable as a category B felony.

Anyone who has information regarding the location of Coty Tyler is asked to contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 463-6620 or by email at [email protected].
