The survey is available on the Nevada Department of Education’s website and will remain open through Oct. 4.
“The State Board of Education has deliberated this topic at length, and we’ve had feedback from district and school administrators,” said Felicia Ortiz, president of the Nevada State Board of Education. “We want to hear from all stakeholders and we’re hoping families, teachers and most importantly, students, will share their thoughts through this survey. We look forward to hearing from all of you.” The Nevada State Board of Education is exploring potential solutions to some of the key challenges facing the state's public school system, including chronic absenteeism, behavioral issues, and low academic achievement. In January, the Board of Education requested that the Nevada Department of Education gather community feedback on this proposed change through a statewide survey. The survey aims to collect input from students, parents, educators, and community members to guide decision-making on this important issue. The results of the survey may influence the development of a bill draft request for the 2025 legislative session. Comment text: Could you look into the strong recurring smell around Fernley? It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows.
It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities.
I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
With Appreciation

Comment text: Maybe there is more to this story than what is reported, but it seems to me that the businesses that are causing this problem ought to be paying for this, or at least a major portion of it. Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
