In-person voting for the Fernley City Council Ward 5 and Stagecoach GID Board of Trustees will begin with two days of early voting on Saturday and Monday, with election day on Tuesday.
Polls will be open at Fernley City Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Monday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A new polling site has been set up at the Old Fire Station and Community Center in Stagecoach, at 8150 U.S. 50. Hours are also 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Monday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters may also drop off ballots during the same times at the Lyon County Administration Complex at 27 S. Main St. in Yerington.
The special election was ordered by the Third Judicial District Court after it declared those races void during the primary election because of errors on the ballot.
In each case, an error was printed on the ballot instructing voters to vote for two candidates. In the Fernley Ward 5 race, four candidates are running, but voters should only vote for one candidate. There are four candidates running for the Fernley City Council Ward 5 seat, and the two who receive the most votes advance to the general election in November, unless the winner receives at least one vote more than 50 percent of the total votes.
In the Stagecoach GID race, the primary election ballot likewise instructed voters to vote for two candidates, but it should have been three.
For the special election, the Fernley City Council Ward 5 ballot will say “Vote for One” and the Stagecoach GID Trustees ballot will state “Vote for Three.”

Comment text: Why can't you guys find competent contractors.. For a large municipal facility like the indoor-outdoor Fernley Swimming Pool located at 300 Cottonwood Lane, a complete ground-up commercial build or major structural renovation typically spans 6 to 12 months or longer when factoring in large-scale engineering, public municipal permitting, specialized commercial HVAC/roofing, and health department inspections. The current renovation has been- The Fernley Swimming Pool has been closed for approximately six to seven months since late February 2026 for a major roof replacement and facility renovation. Now you sat October. Soooo 8 months for a new roof. The picture shows no other renovations.

Comment text: Could you look into the strong recurring smell around Fernley? It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows.
It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities.
I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
With Appreciation
