Ever since Roger Norman and Lance Gilman first conceived of a highway connecting U.S. 50 and Interstate 80 through what is now the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, the road has been called USA Parkway.

Monday, speaking during a ribbon cutting ceremony for the road that will open next week, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced an honorary name for the highway: the Infinity Highway.

Sandoval’s announcement came complete with the unveiling of a metallic highway marker with the name Infinity Highway, and an infinity logo.

In announcing the name, Sandoval spoke of the new industrial revolution now happening, and how it will change the lives of Northern Nevadans.

“It’s happening with regard to transportation, with energy storage, data storage, biofuels, internet fulfillment, advanced manufacturing, and I could go on and on,” Sandoval said. “Everything that is the next big thing is happening right here. So in the honor of the past, and most importantly the boundless potential for our future, I’m proud to announce the honorary name for the USA Parkway. Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in celebrating the Infinity Highway.”
