The Fernley High School football team will get its equipment and begin official practice Wednesday.
Equipment checkout will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday morning. Players will check out their gear, buy their spirit packs, turn in their paperwork and take impact and drug tests, before the first practice from 3-5:30 p.m. The Vaqueros will also practice Thursday from 3-5:30 p.m., and from 8-10:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday,
Next week the Vaqueros will hold double day practices from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. With teachers returning to school Wednesday, Aug 10, practice that day will be from 3-8 p.m. The team will hold a single practice on Thursday, Aug 11 from 3-5 or 6 p.m., depending on the start time of the FHS Open House.
The final double practices will be Friday, Aug, 12 from 3-8 p.m., and Saturday, Aug, 13 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students start school Monday, Aug, 15, and that week will begin the start of normal after school practices.
The Vaqueros are scheduled to scrimmage at Douglas on Aug, 19, and start the season with a home game against defending state champion Fallon on Aug, 26.
The first day of practice for other fall sports is Saturday Aug, 13.

Comment text: Maybe there is more to this story than what is reported, but it seems to me that the businesses that are causing this problem ought to be paying for this, or at least a major portion of it. Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
