As fall arrives, the Nevada Department of Transportation is looking ahead and preparing to keep state roads clear when winter snow flies. NDOT is hiring temporary highway maintenance workers to help keep winter roads clear, including snow plow and anti-icing operations and assisting in highway emergency response, among other duties.

Through Aug. 31, applications are being accepted for more than 50 temporary winter job positions in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Tahoe, Lovelock, Hawthorne, Fernley, Fallon, Yerington and outlying areas. Positions are also available in Las Vegas, Elko, Ely, Winnemucca and other areas across the state.

The majority of positions will be required to operate various types of heavy equipment. Requirements and further information is available through the “careers” link of nevadadot.com.

NDOT begins annual winter preparations in August by readying more than 80 snow plows and other pieces of snow and ice equipment for use in snow removal across northwestern Nevada. Year-round, NDOT maintenance professionals perform nearly 100 different type of tasks, from snow, ice and debris removal to roadway patching, sweeping, slope enhancements and more, to help keep Nevada drivers safe and connected.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
