Salary Range 138: $56,455 - $86,922

DEFINITION
Under general direction, A Deputy Public Works Director performs highly responsible engineering work and assists in supervising multiple operational divisions of the Public Works Department.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Deputy Public Works Director is responsible for performing advanced engineering work in planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day activities of multiple operational divisions of the Public Works Department. This class differs from the classes of Assistant and Associate Engineer by the more difficult and diverse nature of the project management, and by additional administrative and supervisory duties. An employee in this class is expected to resolve problems of a highly professional and technical nature, and manage multiple projects and programs concurrently. Work involves supervising the design, construction, maintenance and operation of streets, public structures, parks, water and sewer systems, and other City public works projects. Direct supervision is exercised over professional and technical employees engaged in administrative, technical, operation and maintenance activities, as well as direction of professional consultants and contractors on public works improvement projects. The Deputy Public Works Director reports to the Public Works Director.

Qualifications
Experience and Training: Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, construction management or related field, plus three (3) years of increasing responsible within a local government or utility required. OR Experience commensurate to education, with a minimum of seven (7) years of increasing operator responsibility, and all Operator Certifications as required by Nevada Administrative Code 445A for facilities/systems supervised as a function of Department organizational structure OR Twelve (12) years of experience in a management capacity within a public utility, public works, or construction related field.
Special Requirements
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Nevada driver's license or access to alternate means of travel.
