North Lyon Fire sends crew to help fight Brian Head fire

North Lyon Fire sends crew to help fight Brian Head fire

When the north Lyon County Fire Protection District purchased a Type 3 fire engine last year, most of th $285,000 the district paid for it came from revenues the district receives for sending staff and volunteer firefighters to out of state wildfires.

This week, the district sent a crew of three volunteer and one staff firefighters to help with the massive fire raging near the Brian Head ski resort in Southern Utah.

The fire began June 17, and on Wednesday had burned more than 54,000 acres and destroyed 21 buildings, including 13 homes, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The fire was 15 percent contained Wednesday, and fire crews have set a target date of July 15 for control of the fire.

North Lyon County Fire Protection District firefighter John Criscione said the North Lyon crew will be at Brian Head for a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 21.

“Then we would need to bring them home or send out a crew swap,” Criscione said.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
