A wildfire that spread out of a controlled burn burned about 16 acres in Fernley, but has been knocked down, Lyon County Dispatch has reported.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center received the report of the fire at 11:17 a.m. The fire was described as a controlled burn that escaped control. Bureau of Land Management and Nevada Division of Forestry resources, including an NDF helicopter, responded to the scene, listed as 16 acres

Shortly after 11 a.m., Lyon County dispatch reported on Twitter of a brush fire on Sage Street, and urged people to avoid the area and yield to emergency vehicles. Shortly after, dispatch tweeted that the fire was approaching 50-60 acres and that BLM was sending engines.

About an hour later, dispatch announced on Twitter that the fire was in knockdown.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
