Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

After losing five times this season to Fallon, the Fernley High School softball finally broke through at beat the Greenwave, in the game that mattered most.

McKenna Montgomery drove in three runs in a five-run sixth inning to lead the Vaqueros to a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Fallon in a semifinal game at the 3A State Softball Tournament in Las Vegas Friday afternoon.

Fernley advances to the championship game at 10 a.m. Saturday, while Fallon fell into an elimination game at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner of the elimination game would need to beat Fernley twice to win the championship.

Fallon took a 4-0 lead with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, but Fernley took the lead with five runs in the sixth.

Montgomery, who was the starting pitcher, was relieved by Macie Kirk in the fifth, but returned to the circle for the seventh inning to finish the win.
