Imagine that you or a loved one are admitted to the hospital and need a blood transfusion but are told that no blood is available. It could happen this July because United Blood Services projects a shortfall of 4,700 units of blood.

Fortunately, people like Nicole Frosini, Donor Recruitment Representative for United Blood Services and her crew are working day and night to make sure the residents of Northern Nevada have the blood they require.

Fernley Farmers market hosted a blood drive last Wednesday. The United Blood Services bloodmobile will return to the Farmers Market on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

“We need to collect more than 125 units a day to keep up with the demand,” Frosini said. “We do this by using our three mobile blood centers and our brick and mortar locations in Reno, Sparks and Carson City.”

Frosini and her team visit Fernley 25-30 times a year and, on average, collect 20-25 pints of blood each time.

“It’s all about building relations and partnerships in the community,” said Nicole.

The next blood drive is Wednesday, July 20 at Carpet King (785 Hwy 95A, Fernley).

Nicole Frosini is a United Blood Services Donor Recruitment Representative for Northern Nevada.
