A number of clergy from various denominations met on Thursday, May 4 to join in the National Day of Prayer in front of the Fernley City Hall.
In attendance were members of the Evangelical Ministers Fellowship, who sponsored the event. Also present were Mayor Roy Edington and many members of the participating churches. The event has been an American custom since the Civil War.
There were prayers for our nation, Nevada, Lyon County, Fernley and many of the issues that America faces today.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
Led by New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, the pastors of Fernley First Baptist, Journey Community, Crosswinds, Living Faith, Gift of Grace, and the Sierra Baptist Association gathered to lead the faithful in praying for our communities, our nation, our world, and each other.
