Pyramid Lake comeback attempt came up just short in a league game at Wells on Friday, losing 16–14 after a second‑half push that nearly erased an early deficit.
Wells built its lead in the first half as Pyramid Lake struggled with miscues, including a fumble in its own end zone that helped the Leopards go up by two touchdowns in the second quarter. Wells led 16–6 at halftime.
Pyramid Lake opened the second half with a momentum swing on a long kick return by freshman Kyree Phoenix, setting up strong field position.
The Lakers’ defense held Wells scoreless after the break and forced a fourth‑quarter safety behind Troy Yazzie, who finished with 12 tackles, and Uriah Coffman, who added 8.
Quarterback Bradley Lara connected with tight end Ben Eben on a 54‑yard pass on third‑and‑long, then scored on a quarterback sneak to pull Pyramid Lake within two. The Lakers couldn’t close the gap in the final minutes, ending with the 16–14 loss.
Thursday the Lakers are scheduled to play at Coleville at 11 a.m., then they finish the season at home next Thursday, hosting Virginia City.
