The Fern 45 will return to Reno-Fernley Raceway Nov. 5–7, bringing three days of off-roading, camping and live entertainment to Fernley while raising money for veterans.
The event takes place at 1965 S. Highway 95A. Admission to the venue, including vendors and live music, is free, with separate charges for camping, the poker run and other activities.
Organizers say last year’s event raised $120,000 to support veterans causes.
Camping opens at noon Thursday, Nov. 5, with a Texas Hold ’em tournament that evening. Friday’s activities include a cornhole tournament and live performances by Shelly Cargill and Madeiros Drive.
Trent Beaver & the Damage are scheduled to perform Saturday evening. Sergio Gutierrez will also provide live music and painting during the event, with his artwork to be auctioned Saturday.
The centerpiece of the weekend is Saturday’s off-road poker run, which will take participants on an approximately 45-mile loop through Nevada’s backcountry. The course accommodates side-by-sides, dirt bikes, ATVs and Jeeps.
A mandatory riders meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday at the stage. Course entry will be open from 9 to 11 a.m.
Every person traveling on the course, including passengers and children, must have a wristband, and each vehicle must have a course-entry sticker. Children younger than 18 will have a “Spot the Squatch” activity instead of participating in the poker game.
Advance adult poker run registration is $50, including a poker card and wristband. Vehicle course entry costs an additional $10. Dry campsites are $60 and include an entry in the vendor run, which gives participants a chance to win prizes by visiting vendor booths.
Online registration closes Nov. 1.
Founded by Kelly Walsh in 2015, the Fern 45 began as an outing for friends and family and grew into an annual fundraiser supporting veterans and veterans programs.
