Fernley lost 2–0 at Lowry last Saturday, leaving the Vaqueros still looking for their first Northern 3A East win.
Fernley is 0–5 in the East and 4‑10‑1 overall, but on the strength of three wins and a tie in early season crossovers against the West Division, are in contention to make the regional tournament.
The top two teams from the East and West divisions and the next four teams, regardless of which division they are from, qualify for the regional tournament.
Fernley has three wins and a tie in crossover play, good for 20 points in the combined standings. That currently places them eighth in the region, ahead of Wooster, Incline, Debbie Smith and Sparks, none of which won a crossover game.
This week, the Vaqueros play at Elko at 1 p.m. Friday, then at Spring Creek at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
