Coach sees progress as seniors close out home careers

Despite two losses last week, Fernley High School boys soccer coach sees progress from the Vaqueros as the team nears the finish of its season.

Fernley lost twice last weekend, falling 1–0 to West Wendover on Friday and 5–0 to Elko on Saturday, but coach Angel Muniz said the group is improving as the season winds down.

In their first meeting with Elko, the Vaqueros lost 8-0, and at West Wendover earlier this season they lost 2-1.

“Definitely seeing progress in the team,” he said. “Still not where I would want them to be, but definitely doing better.”

The Vaqueros put seven shots on goal on Friday but couldn’t convert. Goalkeeper Travis Lyle made four saves.

Fernley managed only one shot on goal against Elko. Lyle finished with seven saves.

Muniz also recognized the seniors after their final home match: Landon Bates, Kade Jensen, Levi Johnson, Matt McDowell, Dominic Medina, Oswaldo Ortega and Damian Ruiz.

This week Fernley plays at Spring Creek at 3:45 p.m. Friday, then at Lowry at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

For a large municipal facility like the indoor-outdoor Fernley Swimming Pool located at 300 Cottonwood Lane, a complete ground-up commercial build or major structural renovation typically spans 6 to 12 months or longer when factoring in large-scale engineering, public municipal permitting, specialized commercial HVAC/roofing, and health department inspections. It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
