We learned something last week. Truckee is Truckee. My early demise of them was an overreaction. With its win at Elko last week, the Wolverines are back on track. The rest of the 3A was quiet.

Power Rankings

Power Rankings

1. Fallon (7-0, 5-0) (LW: 1) The Greenwave freight train was back on track last week against Dayton, picking up an easy win. After trailing Spring Creek 10-7 at halftime, Fallon scored 85 points in the last six quarters

This week: vs. Fernley

2. Truckee (5-2, 4-1) (LW: 3) You don’t see very many teams travel to Elko and do what the Wolverines did to the Indians. A week after struggling at Fernley for a seven-point win, Truckee made the 322-mile trip to Elko and put a 43-14 victory on the board

This week vs. Lowry

3. Spring Creek (5-2, 3-2) (LW: 4) Spring Creek put a damper on Lowry’s homecoming last week with a 41-6 win in Winnemucca. The Spartans defense put a pair of pick 6s on the board in the dominant win. The final regular season game against Elko will be huge for playoff seeding.

This week @ Dayton

4. Elko (4-2, 4-1) (LW: 2) Dropping Elko to No. 4 was probably too much but you can flip flop them and Spring Creek. I didn’t expect Truckee to come in and win in that kind of fashion. I think this is just a one-off performance. They will bounce back.

This week: vs. Sparks

5. South Tahoe (6-2, 4-2) (LW: 5) South Tahoe is enjoying its best season in a number of years. The Vikings did what they needed to do at Sparks. South Tahoe is off this week and finishes with Spring Creek and Truckee. We will learn many things about them.

This week: @ Sparks

6. Fernley (2-5, 1-4) (LW: 6) Close loss to Truckee, followed by a bye. What is the reward? A trip to Fallon this week for the Vaqueros. Asking for a win in this spot is tough. However, Fernley closes the regular season at home against Lowry and Dayton.

This week: @ Fallon

7. Dayton (3-5, 2-4) (LW 7) Dayton was given the task to play Fallon last week and we all saw the result. The Dust Devils are better. A few years ago, the program was close to extinction. The regular season finale at Fernley is for all the marbles

This week: vs. Spring Creek

8. Lowry (2-5, 1-4) (LW 8) Lowry played a competitive first half against Spring Creek but the Spartans scored twice on interception returns. If the Buckaroos could ever eliminate the mistakes, they would be in more games.

This week: @ Truckee

9. Sparks (0-8, 0-6) (LW: 9) Sparks has scored 13 points and given up 370 in eight games. Six of those 13 points were on a trick play against Lowry as time expired. Someone please help this program.

This week @ Elko

For a large municipal facility like the indoor-outdoor Fernley Swimming Pool located at 300 Cottonwood Lane, a complete ground-up commercial build or major structural renovation typically spans 6 to 12 months or longer when factoring in large-scale engineering, public municipal permitting, specialized commercial HVAC/roofing, and health department inspections. It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
