The Fernley High School volleyball team bounced back from its first loss in league play with a pair of four-set wins over Fallon and Dayton last week, to pull into a tie for first place in the Northern 3A West Division.
The Vaqueros began their week by beating Fallon 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 25-14.
The first three sets were close, but the Vaqueros started and finished the fourth set with matching 8-2 runs.
Trista Menesini led Fernley’s attack with 15 kills and defensively had eight digs and three blocks. Emma Masters added eight kills and Chapin had five.
Libero Jocelyn Escartin had 11 digs and received 30 serves, while Alauna Escartin had 30 assists and made eight digs.
Fernley followed that performance by beating Dayton Friday night, 25-11, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14.
Menesini had 13 kills and three blocks, Chapin added eight kills and five blocks and Masters knocked down six kills.
Alauna Escartin complemented her 31 assists with three blocks, while the defense nearly had four players reach double figures in digs. Jocelyn Escartin had 14, Alauna Escartin had 13 and Menesini had 10, while Maddison Hill made four.
“The girls played great in both matches,” coach Diane Chapin said.
The Vaqueros return to the court Thursday in Fallon at 6 p.m., then play Saturday at Lowry at noon. Fernley is 4-1 in the East Division of the Northern 3A, tied for first placed with Spring Creek. Fallon and Elko are each 3-2
