Volunteers are invited to help preserve a piece of local history during the annual California Emigrant Trail Fernley Swales Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the historic Fernley Swales. Volunteers will meet on Truck Inn Way, just north of the Flying J Truck Stop.
The swales are remnants of the California Emigrant Trail, where the passage of thousands of emigrant wagons and livestock left depressions in the landscape that remain visible today.
Volunteers should bring work gloves, sturdy shoes or boots, water, a hat and sunscreen. Those who have a trash grabber are encouraged to bring it. Trash bags and additional cleanup supplies will be provided.
The annual cleanup helps keep the historic trail area clean and accessible while preserving the swales for future generations.
