The Fernley High School girls golf team finished sixth in both Northern 3A meets last week at Spring Creek and Elko.
At the Spring Creek Golf Course on Sept. 14 and returned to Ruby View Golf Course the next day for a preview of the course that will host the 3A State Tournament on Oct. 13–14.
At the Spring Creek Golf Course on Sept. 14, Hailey Hall shot 111 to lead the Vaqueros and tie for 21st individually. Brylee Harry finished at 116, Kaia Ressler at 117, Scarlet Garvin at 125 and Izzy Martinez at 129. Fernley posted a team score of 469 for sixth place. Truckee won the event with a 378, led by low medalist Allison Mortimeyer, who shot 75.
The next day offered a sneak preview of the Ruby View Golf Course that will host the state tournament next month. Garvin led Fernley with a 109 for 22nd place. Hall and Harry each shot 110, while Martinez and Ressler finished at 116. Mortimeyer again took low‑medalist honors with a 69, and Truckee posted a 358 to again win the meet.
Coach Brian O’Neill said the Fernley players are making steady progress at the halfway point of the season.
“The girls are improving, but golf is a difficult sport and it takes time,” he said. “We will continue to work on each individual’s weaknesses and continue to push toward qualifying for spots at the state tournament.”
The Northern 3A was schedule to play in Fallon on Sept. 21 and in Fernley on Sept. 22. The regional meet is scheduled Oct. 5 in South Tahoe and Oct. 6 in Truckee.
