The Fernley Community Foundation has received a $6,500 grant from the Microsoft Northern Nevada Community Fund to continue improvements at Polaris Plaza.
The new funding will be added to nearly $100,000 in privately raised contributions already invested in the Main Street and Lois Lane area, which serves as a gateway to Fernley’s Community Campus. The campus includes the Fernley Senior Center and the Community Response and Resource Center, which houses the Boys & Girls Club.
According to the foundation, the grant will be used to add additional shade and landscaping and improve areas intended for community activities including vendor events and cornhole tournaments.
The foundation said the Polaris Plaza project is intended to create a more welcoming and usable gathering space at the community campus and plans to continue sharing updates as work progresses.
The announcement follows previous private fundraising efforts that have already brought significant improvements to the site.
