Two people were arrested Sept. 16 on drug and weapons charges after Lyon County Sheriff’s Office detectives investigated a report of illegal drugs, firearms and a possible homicide at a home in the Villa Mobile Home Park.
The Sheriff’s Office said its SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team executed a high-risk search warrant at the home. Two people were found inside, and detectives reported finding evidence of illegal drug sales, firearms and drug paraphernalia. The initial report of a homicide was determined to be unfounded.
Chief Deputy Mitch Brantingham said detectives received information early that morning that substantial quantities of illegal drugs and firearms were inside the home, along with a claim that a person had been murdered and the body was being stored in a bathtub.
Detectives verified as much of the information as possible before obtaining the warrant. During the operation, they found several pounds of marijuana, mushrooms, cocaine, methamphetamine and unlawfully possessed prescription medications, along with multiple firearms.
Brantingham said detectives later located the person who was reported to have been killed and confirmed he was alive and unharmed.
The occupants, Kody Gitthens, 29, and Emma Burns, 19, both of Fernley, were booked into the Lyon County Jail on multiple drug and weapons charges. Bail was set at $473,640 for Gitthens and $83,640 for Burns.
Brantingham said the large law-enforcement presence at both the mobile home park and Out of Town Park was related to the same incident.
