Fernley soccer teams open league play this weekend

The Fernley High School boys and girls soccer teams will begin to see how they stack up against the rest of the Northern 3A East when they being league play this week.

The Fernley girls team hosts Lowry at 11:45 a.m. Saturday to start league play. 

After losing 3-0 to Truckee on Sept. 9, the Vaqueros entered this week with a 4-5 overall record, and they were scheduled to host North Tahoe Wednesday in their final scheduled Northern 3A crossover game against West Division teams. It’s uncertain whether an August 24 game against Wooster that was cancelled because Washoe County schools were closed that day due the Hawk Fire will be reschedules. 

Against Truckee last Wednesday, the Vaqueros put up a strong defensive front, led by goalie Lilliana Perez, who made 21 saves. Paige McCallum made two saves and Sophie Mossner had one in their time in the net. 

Boys soccer

The Fernley boys soccer lost 12-0 to Truckee on Sept, 9, and 3-0 to North Tahoe on Sept. 12.

The Vaqueros have had a rough beginning to the season, with an 0-9 record and have been outscored 53-0. They open league play Friday at Elko at 4:45 p.m. and play Saturday at West Wendover at 11:45 a.m.

It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
