Fernley residents will have a chance to clear out unwanted household items during the Mayor’s Free Recycle Day on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, or until collection bins are full, at Out of Town Park, located on the 6-acre lot behind the Rodeo Grounds.
Residents can bring a variety of recyclable and disposable items, including large trash and debris, bicycles, one large appliance per household, computers and electronics, batteries, tires, green waste, cardboard and limited amounts of household hazardous materials such as paint and oil.
Items that will not be accepted include asbestos or asbestos-related materials, radioactive smoke detectors, mercury and CRT televisions or tube TVs.
The event is being supported by H&R Environmental Services, Redwood Materials and Waste Management.
Volunteers and donations are also needed. Organizers are seeking bottled water, work gloves, lunch items and monetary donations to help cover recycling bins and volunteer supplies.
