Fernley has been awarded a $6,500 grant from the Microsoft Northern Nevada Community Fund to continue improvements at Polaris Plaza near Main Street and Lois Lane.
The grant will support additional shade and landscaping at the plaza, along with improvements intended to create more usable space for community activities such as vendor events and cornhole tournaments.
The new funding builds on nearly $100,000 in private contributions already raised and invested in the area.
Polaris Plaza is being developed as a gateway to Fernley’s Community Campus, which includes the Fernley Senior Center and the Community Response and Resource Center, home to the local Boys & Girls Club.
Project organizers said the latest grant will help continue efforts to make the area more welcoming and functional for community gatherings and events.
The grant was awarded through the Microsoft Northern Nevada Community Fund, with funding administered through ChangeX.
Organizers said work at the plaza will continue as additional improvements are planned.
