North Lyon County Fire Protection District will join the Nevada Veterans Coalition and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 11 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The community is invited to attend the remembrance ceremony from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at North Lyon Fire Station 61, 195 E. Main St. in Fernley.

The ceremony will honor those who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, along with the first responders who died in the line of duty and the many acts of courage and selflessness that followed the attacks.

This week, as our community marks 25 years since that morning, The Fernley Reporter also dedicates this issue to the families whose lives were forever changed by the attacks, to the first responders who ran toward danger, and to those from across the country who answered the call to help in the days, weeks and months that followed.

For many Americans, Sept. 11 remains more than a date in history. It is a reminder of lives lost, families altered forever, extraordinary acts of courage and the responsibility to remember what happened and those who served.

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We honor. And we will not forget.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
