Walsh joins Fernley Chamber board

The Fernley Chamber of Commerce has welcomed Shari Walsh as its newest board member, bringing years of experience in mortgage lending, small business ownership, fundraising and community events.

Walsh has worked as a mortgage lender for 11 years and previously spent more than 25 years as a manicurist and salon owner. She said helping people purchase their first home has become one of the most rewarding parts of her career.

“I absolutely love my job,” Walsh said, noting that she now shares an office with her daughter, Kayleigh Capone, who is also a loan officer.

Walsh is also co-founder of the Fern 45, an annual event that raises money for veterans organizations. What began as a way to introduce people to area trails has grown into a fundraiser that Walsh said now generates more than $100,000 annually for veterans causes.

As sponsor director for the event, Walsh said the role has strengthened her experience in networking, fundraising and community outreach.

“I look forward to becoming a Chamber board member,” Walsh said. “I hope I can add to that success with some of my marketing and fundraising ideas.”

Walsh grew up in Sparks and graduated from Reed High School in 1989. She said she is looking forward to contributing to the Chamber’s work and supporting Fernley’s business community.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
