Fernley wins Silver Bracket championship at Yerington Volleyball Tournament

The Fernley High School volleyball team went 5-1 and won the Silver Bracket championship at the Yerington Tournament August 14-15.

The Vaqueros rallied after losing the first set to Dayton in three sets in the championship match Saturday afternoon.

The Vaqueros opened the tournament Friday by beating Portola in three sets, but lost the second match to Carson, 13-25, 21-25.

They finished pool play by beating Dayton 22-25, 25-16, 15-12, North Valleys 25-17, 25-19 and Coleville 25-22, 26-24.

In the championship match against Dayton they rallied from a 12-4 deficit in the first set to tie it at 23-23, before Dayton scored the final two points. As they had earlier in the day, they won the final two sets to take the championships 23-25, 25-14, 15-11.

The Vaqueros return to action Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Truckee.
