By Robert Perea

A Dayton Elementary School teacher was arrested Aug. 5 and accused of sexually abused two former students.

Shaun Sanchez, 40, was arrested on a warrant issued by Dayton Township Justice Court on Aug. 5 charging him with three counts of lewdness with a child under the age of 14. Bail was set at $300,000.

he Lyon County Sheriff's Office said it began an investigation in February 2026 after a former student reported that Sanchez had sexually abused him while he was an elementary school student. During their investigation, detectives identified a second former student who independently reported similar acts allegedly committed by Sanchez several years earlier.

LCSO said detectives investigated both reports and found multiple similarities between the two students’ accounts. Based on the evidence they found, detectives submitted the a request for a warrant. The warrant was issued Aug. 5 and Sanchez was taken into custody without incident later that evening.

Anyone with information or who believes they may have had inappropriate contact with Shaun Sanchez, is encouraged to contact the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division at (775) 463-6600 or by email at [email protected]

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
