Fernley Animal Control will host its first Check the Chip Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Fernley Out-of-Town Park.
The event is intended to help pet owners make sure their animals can be identified and returned home if they become lost.
Dog owners may have their pets microchipped for $15, cash only, or by donating an unopened 10-pound bag of pet food. Free checks will also be available for pets that already have microchips so owners can confirm the chips are working and that their contact information is current.
The event will also include food trucks, local vendors and family activities.
Scheduled vendors include JT Ranch, Electric Snow, Three Happy Hounds, The Classy Pet, Elaine King and Reynolds Photography.
Fernley Animal Control is still accepting additional vendors, although space is limited.

Organizers said they hope the event will become an annual community tradition while helping more lost pets find their way home.
