A new community group is taking root in Fernley with a mission to help local mothers build meaningful friendships, learn practical skills and create a stronger sense of connection for families.
Founded by Sierra Ratcliffe, alongside Madi Primeau and Ashley Coverdell, the Rooted Moms Collective was created to “bring back the village” by offering a welcoming space where moms can support one another while making lasting memories with their children.
Ratcliffe said the idea grew from a desire to restore the sense of community that many families feel has been lost in today’s busy world.
“Rooted Moms Collective was created from a simple but meaningful desire: to help rebuild the sense of community that so many families are missing today,” Ratcliffe said. “I wanted to create a place where moms can form genuine friendships, encourage one another, and build a strong support system while creating lasting memories with their children. We truly believe that when families are connected and supported, our entire community becomes stronger and the quality of life for everyone improves.”
The collective plans to host a variety of activities designed to bring local families together, including family-friendly events, moms’ meetups, seasonal celebrations, community service projects and opportunities to learn practical homemaking skills.
Hands-on gatherings may include bulk cooking days, baking, canning, gardening, freezer meal preparation and other seasonal projects. Members will also have opportunities to exchange recipes, gardening tips and homemade goods while learning new skills from one another.
Beyond practical workshops, the organization hopes to foster genuine friendships through coffee meetups, craft nights, bonfires, walks, occasional wine nights and other social gatherings where moms can relax and connect in a supportive environment.
Ratcliffe emphasized that the group’s focus is not on perfection, but on creating a place where every mother feels welcomed and valued.
“My hope is that children will grow up surrounded by lasting friendships, and moms will know they never have to navigate motherhood alone,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation for the women helping bring the vision to life.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the support of Madi Primeau and Ashley Coverdell, who have been by my side helping bring this vision to life,” Ratcliffe said. “Their encouragement, ideas, and dedication have been invaluable in getting Rooted Moms Collective off the ground. We’re excited to see this grow into something that strengthens families, fosters meaningful friendships, and makes a lasting, positive impact on our community.”
The group welcomes mothers and grandmothers of all experience levels, encouraging participants to share their own knowledge while learning from others. Organizers say the goal is to create a community where everyone has something to contribute and every family has a place to belong.
