Two people were killed in a plane crash Sunday morning near Empire, between Pyramid Lake and Gerlach.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said it received a request at 8:25 a.m. Sunday to help find a possible missing aircraft last reported to be near the area of Empire.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel and Pyramid Lake Fire responded to the area and, after a coordinated search effort, found a single-engine private aircraft approximately 7.5 miles southwest of Empire.
Two people were found dead inside the plane.
The Murphy Reynolds Wilson Fire District in Melba, Idaho, identified the two people killed in the crash as one of its firefighters, Ed Dickman, and his companion, Sherry Jones.
The fire district said Dickman and Jones were returning to Idaho from a family event in Nevada when the crash happened.
The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct the formal aircraft accident investigation.
