After a bye last week, the Fernley High School softball team is back in action this week as the No. 2 seed from the East Division in the 3A Northern League Softball Playoffs in Dayton.
The Vaqueros were scheduled to face Elko in their first game of the double-elimination tournament at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. A win in that game would advance them to face South Tahoe, the No. 1 seed from the West Thursday afternoon.
If they win twice Thursday, they would play in the semifinal round at approximately 1 p.m. Friday against either Lowry, Fallon or Truckee, for a berth in the championship game.
A loss in either game Thursday would force them to play an elimination game at either 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Friday needing three wins to reach the championship round on Saturday.
The two teams that make it to Saturday’s championship game also qualify for the 3A State Tournament, May 15-16 at Spanish Spring.
