Ronald Lee McKay

Ronald Lee McKay went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 19, 2026.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1939, in Kankakee, Ill. to Robert McKay and Jewel Murphy. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Navy and retired in January 1979 as a CPO-HMC. After his service, he continued to work in military service as an industrial hygienist for the Navy, including at NAS Fallon, until he retired in 2003.

Ron married Frances L. Detloff on Jan. 2, 1968.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Samuel and his stepmother Edith Niblock.

He is survived by his wife Fran; sons Mark, Christopher and Patrick; grandchildren Christopher, Kelsey, Caiden, Cammie and Sullivan; step-grandchildren Jordin Soule, Jackson Miller and Madison Miller; and six great-grandchildren.

A service was scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 17 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. at the Ranch at Desert Lakes golf course.
