Senior Citizen Advisory Committee launches fan drive to help seniors beat summer heat

The Fernley Senior Citizen Advisory Committee has kicked off a community fan drive to help local seniors stay safe as temperatures climb heading into summer.

The committee began accepting donations of new, unopened fans on March 1. Fans can be dropped off at the City Clerk’s Office, and monetary donations are also being accepted to allow the committee to purchase additional units.

All fans will be stored at City Hall and distributed directly to seniors at two events this spring and summer. The first distribution is scheduled for April 18 from 1–4 p.m., and the second will be held June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The June event will take place at the clock on the corner of Main Street and Silver Lace.

No application is required. Seniors can simply show up to either event to receive a fan.

For more information or to donate, residents can contact the Fernley City Clerk’s Office.
