Silver Springs man arrested March 17 after pursuit

Staff Report

A Silver Springs man was arrested on March 17 after leading deputies on a lengthy vehicle pursuit, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to stop a reckless driver at about 1:45 p.m. in the area of Idaho Street and U.S. Highway 95A. The driver failed to yield and fled, prompting a pursuit that wound through Silver Springs.

Deputies from the Central, Western and Northern command areas responded to assist, along with members of the Investigations Division. During the chase, the driver forced vehicles off the roadway and nearly caused several high‑speed collisions, deputies said.

The suspect eventually stopped and ran from the vehicle. Deputies established a perimeter and located him a short time later in the 7500 block of Sycamore Street. He was identified as Troy Nelson, 40, of Silver Springs.

After Nelson was taken into custody, LCSO K9 Kilo was deployed to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled substances. A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected methamphetamine.

Nelson was booked into the Lyon County Jail on charges of reckless driving, felony eluding a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), destruction of evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $31,140.

The case remains under investigation.
