Fernley boys win second track meet; girls finish second behind Lowry

The Fernley boys ran away with the team title at last week’s Fernley Sticker Meet #2, scoring 243.5 points to finish well ahead of Lowry’s 135.42. The Fernley girls placed second with 169 points, trailing Lowry’s 190.

Fernley collected a string of individual wins on the track. Elijah Price won the 400 meters in 54.94, while Alex Mergell took the 800 in 2:17.54. Cael Wilson swept the distance races, winning the 1600 in 5:02.28 and the 3200 in 11:28.84.

The Vaqueros also swept the hurdles. Andrew Peterson won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.84, and Bodie Parsons captured the 300 hurdles in 44.74.

Fernley added a relay victory as Michael Fitzgerald, Elijah Perez, Drostan Reno and Andrew Peterson combined to win the 4x400 in 3:58.80.

In the field events, Kole Miller won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8 inches, while Parsons added wins in the discus at 140-05 and the long jump at 17-8.

On the girls side, Justice Martell-Artiaga swept the hurdles, winning the 100 hurdles in 16.59 and the 300 hurdles in 48.70. Fernley also won the 4x400 relay, with Laura Rosales, Asia Christopher, Kinley Behrendt and Bronwynn Garrett finishing in 4:33.41.

Reese Johnson added a win in the triple jump with a mark of 30-11.5.
