Smith Valley resident Cole Mortensen announced last week that he will be running for the Lyon County Commission District 5 seat.
Mortensen is a fifth-generation Nevadan, lifelong Lyon County resident and a graduate of Fernley High School who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. He spent 20 years working for the Nevada Department of Transportation.
“Cole is committed to bringing his experience, practice problem-solving approach and deep Nevada roots to public service, with a focus on protecting and improving the way of life for Lyon County families,” a campaign statement announcing his candidacy stated.
