The Fernley High School bowling team defeated the Debbie Smith Career and Technical Academy in the first round of the High Desert Interscholastic Bowling Program on Jan. 14. Debbie Smith had been the regular season Valley Division winners. As of the first week of the playoffs, Fernley had the high series of 654.
