Unregistered sex offender arrested in Dayton, dies while being transported to jail

A person arrested on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender died while being transported to the Lyon County Jail on Dec. 31.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), deputies from the Sex Offender Task Force responded to a Dayton-area home following an anonymous tip. The deputies located and arrested the individual for failure to register as required by law.

While en route to the jail, the transporting deputy stopped at the Silver Springs Substation to adjust the person’s restraints. Upon arrival, the person was found unresponsive. Deputies immediately removed the individual from the vehicle and began CPR, and Central Lyon Fire personnel continued lifesaving efforts. Despite these measures, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Under the Regional Critical Incident Investigation Protocol, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada State Police Investigations Division will investigate the death. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
