The Fernley High School girls basketball team rolled out to a big lead behind a suffocating defense in a 58-10 win over Incline on Dec. 16.
The Vaqueros shut out Incline in the first and fourth quarters, and got plenty of playing time for their reserves, with 10 different players scoring at least two points.
Taylor Tollestrup led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tatiana Velazquez and Lillianna Young both scored eight points, while Laura Rosales, Justice Martell-Artiaga and Zaelynn Wasson had six points each.
“All the girls got some minutes and did some pretty good things, especially on our defense,” coach Ralp Dunn said.
The Vaqueros still had trouble finishing shots close to the basket, making 28 of 76 2-point field goal attempts, and were 0-9 on 3-point tries.
The Vaqueros are now 9-1 overall, and resume play Saturday in the Hug Tournament, facing Hug at 9 a.m. Saturday. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday next week, with a game against Carson at 10:30 a.m. Monday and at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday against Yerington.
