The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office hosted its largest Shop with a Sheriff event last Saturday, bringing Christmas cheer to the families of 53 children.

The Sheriff’s Office partnered with Lyon County Human Services, Fernley American Heritage Girls, North Lyon Fire, Walmart, citizens from all over the county and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus for its annual event to take underprivileged children Christmas shopping.

“The event has grown substantially over the past couple of years and this year, we were fortunate enough to work with 53 kids from all over Lyon County,” Chief Deputy Mitch Brantingham said. “It was an incredible event that highlighted the Christmas season for everyone involved.”

The Sheriff’s Office raises money throughout the year for the event through fundraisers and donations, then the deputies and firefighters help the children shop for presents for themselves and their families. The event also helps foster positive interaction between youth and Sheriff’s deputies while spreading the spirit of Christmas to those in need.

The children are selected through a process that includes Lyon County Human Services to identify children who benefit from the event.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
