Lyon County dispatcher Sarah Walker was presented with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office “Stork Pin” for guiding a family through the delivery of a baby during an emergency call on June 29.
Walker was presented with the pin and recognized for her actions during the Nov. 20 meeting of the Lyon County Commission.
In his commendation, Sheriff Brad Pope said Walker demonstrated outstanding professionalism and composure during an emergency 911 call involving a woman who was 40 weeks pregnant and in active labor. Pope wrote that Walker promptly gathered critical information, dispatched the appropriate medical and law enforcement units and remained on the line to provide reassurance and guidance to the family.
During the call, the mother successfully delivered a healthy baby boy while Walker continued to offer calm and confident communication.
“Her professionalism and empathy reflected the highest standards of service expected of Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Communications personnel,” Pope wrote. “Childbirth-related emergency calls are rate and require exceptional presence of mind, quick thinking and composure. Dispatcher Walker’s actions exemplify these traits and serve as a testament to her skill, dedication and commitment to the community she serves.”
