What began in 2015 as a casual off-road outing among friends has grown into one of Fernley’s signature annual events. Now in its 11th year, the Fern 45 returns Nov. 6-8 to the Reno-Fernley Raceway for a three-day celebration filled with food, music, games and the beloved Off-Road Patriot Poker Run.

More than just a good time, the Fern 45 has become a powerful fundraiser for veterans organizations and individual veterans in need. Since its inception, the event has raised over $100,000 and provided direct support to countless veterans across Nevada.

Founder Kelly Walsh originally envisioned a small gathering of maybe 30 people. Instead, more than 100 showed up that first year. That spontaneous turnout sparked a tradition that’s continued every year since, except for 2020 due to the pandemic.

This year’s festivities kick off with gates opening at noon Thursday, with food trucks, live music and a Texas Hold ‘Em. Friday’s registration opens at 9 a.m. with vendors opening at noon, a cornhole tournament in the evening and live music after the tournament.

Opening ceremonies take place at 8 a.m. Saturday with the off-road course open at 11 a.m. Vendors, food trucks and a bounce house sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club will open at noon. The Poker winner and door prize winners will be announced at 4:45 and the event wraps up with more live music.

Entry into the venue is free and camping and events are available for purchase
