Vaqueros compete with top runners and teams in Clovis Invitational

The Fernley High School cross country teams competed last week at the 46th Asics Clovis XC Invitational, facing top teams from California and beyond. The meet featured hundreds of schools and over 5,000 runners across 10 races.

The Fernley High School cross country teams got to see some of the top teams and runners from 

California and beyond at last week’s 46th running of the Asics Clovis XC Invitational. 

The meet featured hundreds of schools and more than 5,000 total runners competing in 10 

different races. 

The Vaqueros competed in the Division 5 varsity race, where the boys team finished 23rd among 

34 complete teams. There were 237 runners in the boys Division 5 race. The girls had four 

runners in the Division 5 varsity race, where there were a total of 205 runners. 

Joe Perkins had Fernley’s fastest time, finishing in 38th place in the boys varsity race with a time 

of 16:45.60. Cael Wilson finished in 102nd place with a time of 17:40.00; Dominick Dietrich was 

144th in 18:21.80; Zachary Petersen placed 158th with his time of 18:36.40; Alex Mergell came 

in 169th at 18:49.00; Skyler Ledesma-James came in 189th with a time of 19:16.90 and Daniel 

Hiles was 232nd with a time of 21:49.10. 

For the girls, Corbyn Gillespie finished 153rd with a time of 23:19.70; Wynter Angus was 185th 

with a time of 25:06.00; Regan Scott placed 194th with a time of 25:46.20 and Jojo Cardinal 

came in 195th in 25:57.10. 

The Vaqueros were scheduled to run twice this week. They were scheduled to run Wednesday in 

the Incline Highlander 5K, then Friday in the Lowry Cross Country Invitational at the 

Winnemucca Golf Course.
