The Fernley High School boys basketball team clinched the third seed for the upcoming Northern 3A Region Tournament with a 74-54 win over Sparks Friday night.

Continuing the hot shooting they displayed in Tuesday’s win over Truckee, the Vaqueros hit 12 3-pointers and had five players score in double figures. Zach Burns and Drake Howe had 16 points each, Ethan Hunter and Ren Arroyo had 13, Justin Turner had 11.

“It was a good team win on Senior Night,” coach Derek Miller said. “This is a great group of seniors that have been dedicated to making our program successful.”

Fernley will open the region tournament against Dayton Thursday at 4:40 p.m. The winner will face South Tahoe Friday at 4:40 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m. All games are at the Winnemucca Events Center.

“(We’re) looking forward to zone and playing a tough Dayton team,” Miller said. “If we continue to play as a team I think we have a great chance to be playing on Saturday.”
