The Fernley High School volleyball team swept its match with Dayton last Friday, setting up this
week’s rematch with Fallon as a battle for first place in the Northern 3A East.
The Vaqueros beat Dayton 25-10, 25-23, 25-18 to run their league record to 4-1 and 20-5 overall.
Fallon leads the league with a 4-0 record, including a three-set win over Fernley on Sept. 24 in
Fallon.
Trista Menesini had 12 kills and served five aces for the Vaqueros against Dayton, and Emma
Masters added six kills. Grace Chapin added four blocks and Alauna Escartin dished out 16
assists.
“We played the best we played in two weeks,” coach Diane Chapin said. “We limited mistakes
and ran a good offense.”
Fernley will host Fallon at 6 p.m. Friday. If Fernley wins, each team would have one league loss,
with five matches remaining for Fallon and four for Fernley, If Fallon wins, it would have a two-
game lead over Fernley in the loss column and hold the tiebreaker if they end up with the same
league record.
