Fernley girls golfers finish 5th in first two meets

The Fernley High School girls golf team finished fifth in the first meet of the season on Sept. 2 in Dayton. The Vaquero posted a composite team score of 492, led by Scarlet Garvin, who placed 17th overall with a score of 118 and Hailey Hall, who tied for 18th place with a score of 121.

Kaia Ressler shot 126 for the Vaqueros, Riley Schultz and Isabella Martinez both shot 127 and Remmi Dunn shot 138.

Truckee won the meet with a team score of 366, followed by Spreen Creek at 431 and Lowry third at 462. 

Team scores are determined by adding up each team’s best four individual scores.

On Sept. 3, the Vaqueros were again fifth in a meet in Winnemucca.

Hall had Fernley’s best score at 122. Garvin shot 125, Schultz shot 129 and Ressler shot 135. They were joined by Martin, who shot 137 and Ainsley Blackorby at 138.

Truckee again placed first as a team with a composite score of 403, Spring Creek was second at 432 and Elko was third at 441.

The next meets are Sept. 15 at Spring Creek and Sept. 16 in Elko.
